If you happen to be the type of smartphone user who never got the hang of using a full touchsreen device and are looking to get your hands on a device that packs a QWERTY keyboard that is supposed to make your messaging chores a whole lot easier, chances are you would have a hard time looking for one because this type of devices hard to come by nowadays. But if you happen to have T-Mobile for your wireless provider of choice, you will be interested to know that you won’t have to search very hard because the Magenta carrier has finally announced the Samsung Galaxy S Relay 4G, a smartphone that packs a slide-out physical QWERTY keyboard.
The Samsung Galaxy S Relay 4G was previously known as the Samsung Galaxy Blaze S Q when it first leaked but apparently, T-Mobile was set to change the name of the device to what it is now. In fact, this information about the name change has already been rumored in the past and the information came from leaked training materials about the handset.
Initially, the Samsung Galaxy S Relay 4G was supposed to hit the shelves of the Magenta carrier last August 15 but got delayed and it’s only now that the wireless provider managed to take the wraps off of the handset. Sad to say, there was no mention of pricing info and specific release date for the Samsung Galaxy S Relay 4G but we can fairly expect the QWERTY-packing handset to make its debut in the shelves of T-Mobile in the coming weeks.
Despite hitting officialdom, the specs sheet of the Samsung Galaxy S Relay 4G is not yet as complete as we would want it to be. No information yet on its dimensions and catch weight but if we are to hazard a guess, the handset will definitely be bulky and hefty because of its physical keyboard. The handset is from the midrange category and is expected to ship with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich for its operating system.
The circuitry of the Samsung Galaxy S Relay 4G in its internals is built around the handset’s QualComm MSM8260 SnapDragon chipset and this SoC brings to the device a dual-core Scorpion processor clocked at 1.5 GHz, a full gigabyte of RAM and a dedicated Adreno 220 graphics processing unit. The storage space onboard the device is a bit meager because it only comes up to 4GB but since the Samsung Galaxy S Relay 4G comes with a microSD card slot in its chassis for memory expansion purposes, the measly internal memory of the handset shouldn’t be too much of an issue here.
In terms of its display, the Samsung Galaxy S Relay 4G sports a 4.0-inch SuperAMOLED capacitive multitouch panel with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels and it also comes with a dual-shooter configuration that includes a rear-facing 5MP shooter capable of recording 720p clips at 30 frames per second and a front-facing 1.3MP video call and self-portrait camera.
