When Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich broke cover late last year, one of the manufacturers that first gave out details about its ICS plans for the handsets in its lineup was Samsung. When the Korean smartphone and tablet manufacturer came out with the details, it confirmed that its flagship device, the Samsung Galaxy S II, and its phablet, the Samsung Galaxy Note, will be the first devices in its stable to get first dibs on the latest version of the Android mobile operating system. Of course, it is a given that carrier-branded versions of the Samsung Galaxy S II will experience a bit of a delay in getting the update to ICS given the fact that the carrier carrying the device has much input with regard to the development of Ice Cream Sandwich for that matter.
Just last week, Samsung did a first by coming up with the ICS plans for its carrier-specific devices but the details about the handsets that were added to the T-Mobile lineup were missing during the announcement. In the case of the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II, we already have an idea as to when the T-Mobile variant of the Samsung flagship handset will get a taste of Ice Cream Sandwich if the information from a leaked T-Mobile document pans out.
That being said, a leaked enterprise calendar from the magenta carrier recently found its way to the internet and the said leaked roadmap highlights as to when the T-Mobile variant of the Samsung Galaxy S II will get upgraded to ICS. Based on the leaked T-Mobile roadmap, the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II stands to receive the update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich come May 14 but again, with this kind of leaked information, nothing is as always set in stone so you are well advised to take this info with some grain of salt.
There is nothing stopping us from crossing our fingers though that hopefully, this rumor pans out to give our smartphone-crazed brethren on the Magenta carrier rocking the Samsung Galaxy S II join their international counterparts in rocking an ICS-laden Samsung Galaxy S II for that matter. And to lighten up the load of waiting, we have the specs sheet of the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II below to keep you company.
The T-Mobile version of the Samsung Galaxy S II eschews the Exynos chipset found in the original version of the handset but instead packs an equally powerful QualComm APQ8060 SnapDragon chipset in its internals. This SoC gives the handset a dual-core Scorpion processor clocked at 1.5 GHz and 1GB of RAM to deliver the computing muscle the smartphone requires while an Adreno 220 GPU handles messy graphical situations.
The storage space on the device is pegged at 16GB but this is still expandable by using the memory expansion slot of the Samsung Galaxy S II. It has the same 4.52-inch SuperAMOLED Plus display with a 480 x 800 resolution while its camera department equips the handset with a very impressive 8MP shooter at its back panel capable of Full HD 1080p video capture and a 2MP video call camera out front.
