Yes, it is finally here and you know what we are talking about, the iPhone 5. Apple has unveiled the new iPhone 5 at the Year Buena Theatre in San Francisco, along with a new family of iPods. The event began with revisiting the prices of iPod shuffle. The iPod touch has been launched in five colours red, blue, yellow, black and grey and they come with the epic NLUI SiRi. Later in the event the iPod Nano was launched with seven colours and much slimmer body this time. There was mention of the new iTunes store and also about the debut of iOS 6 scheduled on September 19th.
Let us come to the main part of the event, the launch of iPhone 5. Well you still get only two colours, black or white but it had a lot of surprises in store. It is taller, leaner, lighter and shinier and we are just getting started. However let us begin with the good news for the customer’s wallet, the iPhone 5 is priced the same as iPhone 4S which means you get extra but you don’t have to pay extra.
Internet forums, tech-news websites kept bombarding articles all this while about what they expect from the new iPhone and the rumors surrounding it. Well we are done with rumours, let us talk reality.
The new iPhone is 7.66 mm thick much less than iPhone 4S, weighs a 112 grams and is composed of a 1136×640 resolution with a 16:9 aspect ratio. It consists of a retina display and a pixel density of 326.
The iPhone 5 runs on a quad-core Cortex A6 processor which has double the speed of 4S. The battery for this iPhone has been reworked to have 225 hours of standby time, 8 hours of 3G and LTE browsing, 8 hours of 3G talk time and 10 hours of Wi-Fi browsing. Just so that you are clear, the battery hasn’t been upgraded but considerably improved.
The 12 megapixel camera rumour has been smashed with a disappointment as iPhone 5 has an 8 MP camera with panorama mode, backside illumination and an f/24 aperture. The front camera for FaceTime will support HD videos at 720p and there are three microphones at top, bottom and rear respectively.
The drastic improvement is the use of LTE 4G which is going to make data transfer very fast. The phone is provided with antennae in case of network issues.
