Windows has a new phone on the market and it will include the Mango update. The HTC Eternity has been leaked this week and according to reports the Mango update will bring over 500 updates to the operating system. The new phone is set to launch sometime in September and the Mango update is also set for the same time. The HTC Eternity will be the first Windows Phone 7 that includes the newest update. Updates coming with Mango include Twitter feeds and an Internet Explorer 9 as a mobile browser, just to name a few.
Microsoft is trying hard to keep the gap Google and Apple are creating smaller as the popularity of Android devices skyrocketed over the past few months. One report said that Windows Phone 7 has only a one percent share in the United States. When compared to the almost 40 percent share Android has, Microsoft has a long way to go. These figures are for March to May of this year. Other updates coming with the Windows Phone 7.1 update include LinkedIn feeds, auto Facebook check-in and access to the more than 17,000 applications.
Inside the phone you are going to find a Qualcomm MSM8255processor, which is a single core set at 1.5GHz. One of the more popular features will be the huge 4.7-inch “Super LCD” display with a resolution of 480×800. The screen size is large when compared to other smartphones, but 3D displays are out already, so size might not matter here. Other features that seem to have become more standard are the 8MP, larger than the typical 5MP, camera with LED flash and 720p video capture. You will also find a1.3MP front-facing camera for video calls. The phone comes with 16GB of internal memory and 512MB of RAM.
The new HTC Smartphone will have WiFi, older Bluetooth 2.1, digital compass, a G-sensor and a gyroscope. The 14.4 Mbps HSDPA radio is somewhat slowly than other smartphones on the market today. The internal memory is all that you get, since it is not expandable like many other phones. One report says it is likely to see a 32GB model revealed before launch. When compared to other smartphones already on the market it might seem the HTC Eternity is a little behind the times, but the updates to the Mango software might prove to help Microsoft gain some much needed share in the United States.
