The Tmbile G-Slate is a stunning disappointment for those looking for a tablet that can compete with the features and power that Apple’s new Ipad2 offers. The screen is more than an inch smaller, the processor is 20% slower and it is quite a bit heavier. The price tag is around $800 without a contract, and if you do get a contract, the price drops a couple hundred bucks. But, even then, many wonder if it is really worth it at all.
There are some cool features that distinguish the G-Slate from their competition, most notably the 3D camcorder feature and streaming live TV, and there are also some nice features that users who love to tweak their devices can enjoy. Customizing the display is relatively easy to do, and users have plenty of options they can use to personalize their own device.
That being said, they rely heavily on Google based apps, which were initially designed for smaller devices, and there are some noticeable short comings when it comes to display quality. However, the tablet is fast and reliable, and is a perfect fit for those who are already using T-Mobile as their service provider. However, if you are not, then you should look elsewhere.
If you are looking for free WiFi capability, then don’t waste your money. Apple’s iPad2 is a much better buy, and for the same price, it is hard to beat. There are also limitations to the volume level and display quality which leave it a few steps behind some competing tablets on the market today.
The G-Slate is not a poor device by any means, but for the price and limited flexibility, it is not going to be one of the best selling or most popular with consumers. T-Mobile customers will benefit the most from the tablet, but the rest of us can easily find better choices for about the same price.
