It seems that the Toshiba Thrive tablet had a lot in common with your children. It didn’t want to go to sleep either. It seems that when employing the sleep feature, the Toshiba Thrive software Sleep application didn’t realize your request in every case. Sometimes it would sleep, sometimes it wouldn’t, much like your children. A simple software fix was all that was needed, and an over the air upgrade was made that successfully trained the Toshiba Thrive tablet to go to sleep after periods of inactivity.
Obviously, this feature saves a lot of battery life, and in a situation where you may be infrequently using your tablet, this is a handy application. Now that that is fixed, Toshiba evidently believes that a new lower retail price is in order. As you may know, Toshiba offers the Thrive in an 8 GB version. Generally every other tablet manufacturer offers 16 GB and 32 GB models, with a scarce few offering 64 GB versions. But virtually no tablet manufacturer offers an 8 GB tablet, especially in the 10 inch form.
This is one thing that makes Toshiba’s Thrive tablet unique, and Toshiba hopes will attract market share. Toshiba also offers easily removable back plates that come in a wide array of colors so you can personalize your tablet. These easily removable back plates and lower storage capability combined with a lowered retail price to $369 for the 8 GB version to offer a tablet option not available from other manufacturers.
Toshiba believes that not everyone needs maximum storage ability in their consumer electronics. Someone doing occasional web surfing and e-mail checking, and light social and web 2.0 checking in will probably find 8 GB to be plenty of storage. However, the Toshiba Thrive also has a full-sized SD card slot making it upgradable to 32 GB. Toshiba hopes that these unique customization features allow it to enter the tablet marketplace successfully with the Thrive, it’s first tablet offering. The Toshiba Thrive offers a 10.1 inch capacitive touchscreen display, with Nvidia Tegra 2 processor, five megapixel rear and two megapixel front cameras and stereo speakers.
