The True HD Galaxy Note II smartphone/tablet has received a “SAFE” designation from Samsung. Does this mean that the handset will not injure you? Does this mean that it plays well with children? While both of those are probably the case, the SAFE tag that Samsung has applied to their best-selling and second-generation Galaxy Note phablet applies more to its ability in the business arena. The SAFE label designates that the Galaxy Note II will perform certain functions necessary for the handset to be used in the workplace.
SAFE is an acronym that stands for Samsung Approved for Enterprise (enterprise meaning business, not the original Star Trek starship), and means simply that Samsung has designed the Galaxy note II to support specific corporate or business functions like Mobile Device Management (MDM) and on-device encryption (ODE). The Galaxy Note II also allows access to corporate email, calendar and contacts, and Virtual Private Networks (VPN). Data encryption protects that sensitive business information, and the handset is capable of multiple multitasking features.
The handset is also attractive from an IT security standpoint, providing remote access and other security tools. As Samsung so succinctly states, the “Note II is built for business.” Aside from its SAFE designation, the Galaxy Note II is slim, but provides one of the largest displays found on any smartphone. Measuring a large 5.55 inches, the display makes the handset a mini tablet, providing 4G LTE connectivity. The handwriting recognition technology and smart stylus S Pen from the original Galaxy Note have returned, allowing you to draw, doodle, sketch, take notes and create original artwork.
The Galaxy Note II from Samsung also provides contextual awareness, letting you hover above the screen to get website previews and other information before you click. The S Pen has been made thicker and longer, providing a more natural, pen-like feel, and you can set alerts to let you know when the smart stylus has strayed too far from the handset.
The Galaxy Note II is the first smartphone manufactured by Samsung to deliver the Jelly Bean 4.1 operating system out-of-the-box, and measures a thin 0.37 inches (9.3 mm). The large 5.55 inch Super AMOLED display is aligned in a True HD with 16 to 9 aspect ratio, with a resolution of 720 x 1,280 pixels. Up to 15.0 hours of talk time is offered from a single battery charge, the rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder provides video capture at 1,080P HD resolution, and the handset is powered by a quad core CPU, with 2.0 GB of RAM memory pre-installed.
