Back when the Samsung Galaxy S4 first made its debut in the shelves, the handset was received warmly by the smartphone-buying population. In fact, the Samsung flagship has become so popular that its sales figures have now reached the 10 million mark in less than 30 days since it hit the shelves on a global scale. This is not surprising at all given the fact that the Samsung Galaxy S IV comes with a very impressive resume of fire-breathing components in its internals while at the same time bringing a more impressive set of capabilities to the table.

The handset however was criticized, particularly its 16GB variant, for having only about 9GB of its storage space set aside for user content. Other users might say that that is what the microSD card slot of the Samsung Galaxy S4 is for – for memory expansion, but then again, you can’t use the handset’s media card extension for storing apps and games. This means trouble for a download-heavy user but Samsung in the past promised that they will look into this and come up with a probable fix to the problem.
Apparently, Samsung has kept its word and this promised update is said to land on the Samsung Galaxy S4 soon. With this update, users of the Samsung Galaxy S IV can now store apps on their microSD card thereby freeing up more space on the handset’s internal memory. Aside from this improvement, the said update will also come with the following goodies and treats:
- New Camera firmware with HDR video
- Smearing issue has been fixed (Purple effect while scrolling)
- Smart Pause Toggle
- Move Apps to SD Card
- Semi-transparent status bar
- New Icons in Settings
- Secure boot status in “About Phone”
- Increased display legibility
This update is said to rollout first to the SnapDragon 600-powered variant of the Samsung Galaxy S4 in Germany and is expected to land on the Exynos-powered version of the smartphone afterwards. No specific dates were given as of yet and users of the handset in US shores are expected to wait a little longer before this massive update hits their handsets for that matter.
Regardless of the issues being thrown at the Samsung Galaxy S IV, nothing can change the fact that the handset is one of the most powerful smartphones in the market today. It is powered by a QualComm APQ8064T SnapDragon 600 chipset while the computing power it requires is delivered by its quad-core 1.9 GHz Krait 300 processor and 2GB of RAM. The handset is available in 16GB and 32GB in terms of storage with the option to have its memory expanded using its microSD card slot. Display-wise, the Samsung Galaxy S4 comes with a 5.0-inch SuperAMOLED HD panel with a 1920 x 1080 resolution while its camera department boasts of a rear 13MP shooter and a front 2MP snapper for self-portraits and video calls.
