Verizon looks to be showing its lineup of Droid Razr handsets a lot of software update love these past couple of days. Just recently, Big Red started pushing out the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update to the original Motorola Droid Razr and Motorola Droid Razr Maxx. However, that doesn’t end there because this time around, the more modern HD variant of the Droid Razr Maxx in the form of the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx HD is slated to get some update love.
As it stands, Verizon has already approved a bug-fix update for the handset and has already posted the change log and details of the said update on its official support site. With this development, this simply means that the update is good to go but as usual, there is no mention as to when exactly the update is expected to land. What we are sure of though is that it can be expected to hit the airwaves in the next couple of days.
The update weighs in at 96 MB and will be rolled out soon via OTA so users of the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx HD can either wait for the notification to come up on their handsets once the update is already available OR they also have the option of manually initiating the update process by going to Settings > About phone > System updates > Download.
Once the update has been applied to the handset, it will bring a lot of bug fixes to the handset and these are as follows:
- Google Security Patches have been added for additional security
- Data roaming fix has been implemented
- Connection/disconnection detection has been improved when using USB
- Improved Wi-Fi connectivity
- Wallpaper options are shown when home screen icons are selected
- Camera improvements have been made to touch-to-focus, notifications and low light performance
- In-call audio routes to earpiece when connected to headset has been improved
- Improvements to video streaming pixilation have been made
- Media sync stability has been improved
With this many goodies and treats brought to the table by the said update, this is one update that is worth applying to your Motorola Droid Razr Maxx HD handset as soon as you can.
As for the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx HD, the handset reached official status when it was unveiled back in September. The handset however managed to hit the shelves of Big Red a couple of months later in November.
Under the hood, the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx HD relies on its QualComm MMS8960 SnapDragon chipset to power its operation while the computing muscle it needs is generated by the handset’s dual-core 1.5 GHz Krait processor and 1 GB of RAM. The storage space onboard the device comes up to 32 GB but it this is not enough for your storage needs, the internal memory of the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx HD can easily be expanded using its microSD card slot. Its display on the other hand is a 4.7-inch SuperAMOLED HD panel with a 1280 x 720 resolution while its camera department boasts of a rear 8MP shooter and a front 1.3MP snapper.

Got the latest update yesterday AM with no issues. Today, I got in to the office this morning, charged my phone up to about 92% using my laptop’s USB plug, disconnected and put it in my pocket–only to notice about 3 hours later (after no use whatsoever) the battery was down to 55%. The battery usage for “Phone Idle” seems to be running much higher than usual, and I also noticed that my GPS/Location settings had changed to “all on” which is a setting I never use. Don’t want to blatantly blame the latest update for this, but I’m the only one who ever touches my phone and I certainly didn’t change this setting. Hopefully this was the cause behind this rapid battery drain – fingers crossed.
