A couple of weeks back, it was reported that Motorola sent out invites to members of its Motorola Feedback Network to participate in a soak test for then unannounced software update for the Motorola Atrix 4G. When news about the impending soak test broke out, there were a lot of wild speculations and a lot more questions – could this be the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update everyone was hoping to hit the handset? This, despite the fact that Motorola has already confirmed in the past that the Motorola Atrix 4G will be stuck in the Gingerbread generation for the rest of its natural smartphone life.
Despite this, a lot of our smartphone-crazed brethren were hoping that the manufacturer has had a change of plans. After all, it wouldn’t make sense to conduct a soak test for minor update that only brings incremental updates to the handset, correct?
Sad to say, the update that was being put through the soak test a couple of weeks back is still based on Android 2.3 Gingerbread as confirmed by the manufacturer. Motorola also further announced that the update is now being rolled out to the Motorola Atrix 4G as we speak and is being pushed out to the handset via the usual OTA manner.
So if you happen to still be holding on to that Motorola Atrix 4G handset you got from AT&T in the hopes of seeing it get an official taste of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich one day, you might want to be on the lookout for that notification that will let you know that Gingerbread update has already landed on your device. Alternatively, you also have the option of getting the update process started manually by going to Settings > About phone > System updates.
Once applied to the handset, the update will crank up the software version of the Motorola Atrix 4G to version 4.5.145 and will bring the following goodies and treats to the handset:
- Improved accuracy in Google Maps and Google Navigation.
- Update to Latest Google Security Patches.
Though this is just a minor update, it still is a worthy one for that matter and something you might want to get applied on your handset as soon as possible. After all, any update is a welcome one as long as it brings goodies and treats to your device, yes?
As for the Motorola Atrix 4G, the handset has its circuitry built around its NVIDIA Tegra 2 AP20H chipset which gives the handset a dual-core 1 GHz ARM Cortex-A9 processor and a full gigabyte of RAM for a snappy and lag-free performance on the device. The handset comes with 16GB of onboard storage but this can easily be expanded using the microSD card slot of the Motorola Atrix 4G. As for its display, the Motorola Atrix 4G sports a 4.0-inch TFT capacitive multitouch panel with a qHD resolution of 540 x 960 pixels while its dual-shooter configuration includes a rear 5MP shooter and a front VGA video call and self-portrait snapper.
