The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 recently debuted in Africa alongside the Galaxy Gear smartwatch, and the new Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system update hitting the Samsung Galaxy S4 will allow the popular handset to integrate with the intelligent timepiece as well. If you live in the United States and own a Galaxy S4, the update could be already located on your device. Check your notifications and follow screen prompts, but the rollout is staggered, so you may not see the update available immediately.
The compatibility with the newly launched Galaxy Gear is just one of the many updates in Android 4.3, but will allow you to talk to your watch just like Captain James T Kirk did on Star Trek. Samsung has also chipped in with its very own Wallet application, updates to imaging software, and even thrown in a new keyboard and browser. The Galaxy Gear smart watch effectively delivers notifications, allows you to take pictures, includes a full-color Super AMOLED screen and S Voice functionality.
As a companion piece to the bestselling and powerful Samsung Galaxy S4, Galaxy Gear will be a must-have for many tech crazed Samsung shoppers. The Galaxy S4 arrived earlier this year, and has been one of the bestselling phones of 2013. The S4 delivers the ability to remotely control an HDTV or home theater system, and also delivers NFC, Bluetooth 4.0, wireless N Wi-Fi and DLNA wireless technologies out-of-the-box.
The Galaxy S4 also delivers an extremely high pixel density, with 441 color pixels located over each inch of display space. This gives the handset a Full HD designation at 1,080 x 1,920 pixels, and a layer of third-generation Gorilla Glass protects the screen against scratching and chipping. Extremely slim and light considering the size of the handset and the features on board, the Galaxy S4 measures just 7.9 mm (0.31 inches) in thickness, and weighs just 123 g (4.3 ounces).
The popular Samsung Smart Pause feature pauses a video when you look away from the screen, instantly resuming playback when you look back at the display. Touchless and voiceless gesture control is also present, and a full 17.0 hours of talk time can be achieved from a full battery charge. The quad core 1.9 GHz Snapdragon 600 processor is the cornerstone of the handset’s hardware package, which also includes 2.0 GB of RAM memory, either 16 or 32 GB of built-in data storage space, and a microSD slot. A 13.0 megapixel camera is on the back of the handset, providing Full HD video recording.
