The United States version of the LG Optimus G was recently discounted down to a one penny on-contract price tag at select online retail outlets, and the handset will be the first to deliver a new technology to countries like Saudi Arabia. LTE TDD is employed by some wireless operators like Clearwire in the United States, but has a much bigger impact in Asia, Japan, Australia and India. LG recently launched an Optimus G variant on the Saudi Telecom network, and LG recently announced they would be rolling out to other countries with LTE TDD support (also known as TD-LTE) with an LG Optimus G variant soon.

The popularity of the LG Optimus G in the United States has vaulted that company to the number three position behind Samsung and Apple in global smartphone shipments, a position never reached by LG before. The handset runs the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system, and recently received an update to Android 4.1.2. Improvements to Google Now were on board that update, and the new Chrome for Android mobile web browser is on board and ready for Internet access out-of-the-box.
The update also improves voice search capability and a few new camera applications. The handset hit the United States in November of last year, maximizing screen size and minimizing overall dimensions by delivering an almost nonexistent bezel. This places all of the focus on the large 4.70 inch True HD touchscreen, and the LG Optimus G conserves battery power with optional Power Saver and Eco-Mode features.
The slim LG Optimus G measures just 0.33 inches (8.45 mm) in thickness, and the 4.70 inch True HD IPS+ Touch Hybrid Display achieves WXGA designation with its 1,280 x 768 pixel resolution. This is the first smartphone from LG to remove the layer of air which usually exists between a smartphone’s LCD panel and glass. This makes for truer colors and better viewing outdoors in direct sunlight, as well as at extreme angles.
A layer of Corning Gorilla Glass offers scratch protection, and the handset can achieve up to 13.0 hours of talk time from a single battery charge. The system chip which powers the LG Optimus G is a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro APQ8064 model, built around a quad core 1.5 GHz CPU. 2.0 GB of RAM memory is on board, as is a generous 32 GB of built-in data storage space. The 13.0 megapixel camcorder on the back of the device includes voice activation and 1,080P HD resolution video capture, and a front facing chat cam is also on board.
