According to at least one online source, the Android KitKat operating system is about to be upgraded, but it will not be to version 4.4.3. That would be the next minor upgrade to the KitKat software, but an update that appeared on a Nexus 5 this week shows a smaller update that is going to come first. Those that have the Nexus 5, Nexus 7, Nexus 10 and the Nexus 4 have been waiting for some sort of bug fix for their device and this could be it.
Even though it has not been officially announced, the fact that a software update appeared on a Nexus branded device has plenty of Android users wondering what the new build is all about. The Android 4.4.2 KitKat software hit the market a few months ago for the Nexus branded devices, as well as some others on the market. Since then, the list has gotten longer, but the Android 4.4.3 version has been missing in action up to this point. As users are calling out for the latest version to come with small bug fixes, nothing has been said by Google to indicate what version of the software will be coming next.
Google did say that it is planning to fix some of the issues that users have been complaining about, but they did not say what version of the software was actually going to be fixing them. The new Android build is known as KTU65 and it showed up on a Nexus 5 owned by someone that frequents on a Google Forum. The update has been available for a little while, but was tagged as “Google Restrict View” leaving the update open to only a few select people with the right credentials.
The update has been moved away from that status and apparently it is now available for the United States to see in the public domain. The fact that another update showed up for Nexus branded devices shows that users are going to be in line for at least one more update before Google’s “L” Android update. The “L” version of the Android operating system is expected this year, it will just be a matter of whether it is going to be named with an “L” and at what time will those that are loyal to Android.
