The Verizon Galaxy S III 4G Android smartphone recently appeared on the annual Amazon Wireless holiday sales list, and is currently retailing for around $79 on contract in the 16 GB version. Offered in blue, white, black or brown in the Amazon Wireless store during their seasonal sale, the Galaxy S III runs on Verizon’s 4G LTE system in the United States. Slim at 0.34 inches (8.6 mm), the handset is also lighter than the typical 4G smartphone, weighing 4.70 ounces (133 g). A Corning Gorilla Glass 2 scratch resistant overlay covers one of the largest and highest resolution displays found on any mobile handset.
That 4.80 inch Super AMOLED screen uses a full 16 million colors when rendering visuals, and pixel density runs high 306 pixels present over every inch of display. Overall display resolution runs 720 x 1,280 pixels, and standard capacitive, multitouch gestures are used to navigate the handset. The Verizon Wireless Galaxy S III also delivers built-in light and proximity sensors which automatically take into account the amount of light hitting your display, and then adjust for the best possible brightness.
They also help conserve battery life, which leads to a generous 15.0 hours of talk time generated from a single battery charge. Standby battery power lasts approximately 8.3 days, and popular social networking applications Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Picasa have been pre-installed. The GS III handset also offers NFC (Near Field Communications) support out-of-the-box, and you can export whatever is on that large display to an exterior HDTV or monitor using DLNA wireless connectivity.
A Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus MSM8960 chip set is on board powering the Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III 4G, and at its centerpiece is a speedy dual core 1.5 GHz Krait central processor. A separate Adreno 225 GPU focuses exclusively on handling all graphics processing, and a full 2.0 GB of RAM system memory are on board. Both 16 and 32 GB models also offer a microSD slot for storage expansion.
The Verizon Galaxy S III has the ability to function as a Wi-Fi hotspot for multiple wireless devices, and the handset includes a rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder. That rear facing snapper provides simultaneous HD video and image recording as well as a full package of customization features, capturing video at 1,080P HD resolution. The Verizon Galaxy S III also offers a front facing 1.9 megapixel chat cam for Skype and video calls in the camera combo.
