At least one online retailer has decided to slash the price of the BlackBerry Z10 smartphone just in time for summer in the US. Amid recent claims that in Canada and the UK the BlackBerry Z10 is drawing significant customers from the Android and iOS operating systems, Amazon has dropped the on contract retail price of the new BlackBerry smartphone to $0.01. A standard two-year contract is required, and this new, lower retail price should do nothing to slow down the popularity and sales success of the handset.

Officially announced in January and delivered in March, the BlackBerry Z10 has seen an order of 1 million units on the commercial level, and it quickly added 1 million retail sales ahead of analyst’s expectations. BlackBerry has introduced a brand-new form factor to the Z10, no longer bucking the trend by offering a physical QWERTY keyboard and smaller, lower resolution display. The Z10 also debuts a brand-new BlackBerry 10 operating system, and is a fully touch screen driven device.
Easily the most powerful and advanced BlackBerry smartphone ever created, the device is made in a slim, rectangular form factor, just like popular Android and Apple smartphones. As referenced above, the new form factor and BlackBerry 10 operating system must have been received well, as Canada has seen a full 50% of new BlackBerry Z10 owners coming from the Android and iOS operating systems. More than one third of all BlackBerry Z10 owners in the UK have also moved over from BlackBerry’s competitors.
A slim device measuring only 0.35 inches (9.0 mm) in profile, it weighs 4.85 ounces (138 g). A mobile web browser and NFC support are both present out-of-the-box, as are Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and DLNA wireless connectivity options. The Blackberry Z10 handset can also function as a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot for multiple wireless devices. Offering a 4.2 inch display and HD+ 768 by 1,280 pixel resolution, the screen delivers a high pixel density at 356 pixels per inch, boasting more than 16 million independent colors.
Talk time from a full battery charge runs as high as 10.0 hours, and the Z10 can offer 13.0 days of standby battery power. Qualcomm provides the Snapdragon S4 Plus MSM8960 system chip as the power pack, and it centers around a dual core 1.5 GHz CPU. A generous 2.0 GB of RAM memory is on board, as is 16 GB of built-in data storage and a microSD slot which accepts external cards up to 64 GB in size. The phone delivers a front facing 2.0 megapixel chat cam and rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder, with that rear snapper providing video capture at 1,080P HD resolution.
