In a rather bizarre turn of events, the impending arrival of the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update on the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx 4G has been confirmed by no less than Verizon. Looking back, there have been several misses in the past when it came to the ICS update for the current Motorola flagship device but this time around, it looks like Verizon and Motorola are all set in getting the device upgraded to the latest version of the Google mobile operating system.

Come to think of it, the last time Motorola released an update about its ICS schedule, we saw that the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx 4G already in the Development Phase of its ICS development. Not only that, the manufacturer even confirmed that the ICS update for the handset will be rolled out before the end of Q2. With this official timeline from Motorola, the manufacturer barely has two weeks to keep its promise of a Q2 rollout to give the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx 4G its tasty treat of Ice Cream Sandwich.

However, recent developments intimate that the manufacturer has a big chance of following through on its promise. This came in the form of a text message being sent out to users of the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx 4G who use the Mobile IM application of Verizon in their handsets because as it turned out, the Verizon Wireless Mobile IM app is not supported in Ice Cream Sandwich. Because of this, users of the application are being advised by the wireless provider that they will need to download a new instant messaging app because their handsets will soon get upgraded to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.  We invite you to comment on this information if any of you  received this text message.

Sad to say, the text message did not include any specific details about the exact rollout date of ICS for the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx 4G so we have to wait for Verizon yet again to release more details about this. Although we are still quite wary with this recent development due to the number of times we were burned in the past, we are somehow assured by the fact that the confirmation for the impending arrival of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich came from the wireless provider itself. Because of this, it lends more credence to the news and hopefully, Verizon will come out with more details regarding this.

As for the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx 4G, the handset has the distinction of having the longest battery life among the smartphones in Verizon’s lineup because of its massive 3300 mAh power pack. As for the components under the hood of the handset, it has a Texas Instruments OMAP4430 chipset running things in its internals while a dual-core 1.2 GHz ARM Cortex processor works in conjunction with 1GB of RAM to deliver the computing muscle needed by the device. The Motorola Droid Razr Maxx 4G only as 16GB of onboard memory but its retail package comes with a 16GB microSD card for memory expansion. AS for its display, the handset has a 4.3-inch SuperAMOLED Advanced display that has a qHD resolution of 540 x 960 pixels while its dual-shooter configuration is composed of a rear 8MP camera and a front-facing 1.3MP webcam.  You can buy the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx 4G starting at $99 at select retailers.

  1. I have seen reports of such texts from Verizon but as of right now I never got the text from Verizon. Wonder why some got the text message and others didn’t. I even sent Verizon a message on Twitter and never heard back from them. Just hoping the update hits soon.

  2. Neither have I….I got one about some animated messaging no longer being available after 8/1 …but nothing close to what everyone’s screaming about.

Free Verizon Message: Animated Messaging will no longer be available after 8/1/2012. Visit http://www.verizonwireless.com/animatedmessaging for more information

  3. I didn’t receice any message from Verizon, I am in NY. What’s the deal big red? Is this another bogus announcement? blah, blah, blah…

  4. I live in south jersey and i never got any text about the update!!

  5. I received two messages on June 15th, at 12:14 PM EST and 12:27 PM EST from the numbers 900-090-005168 and 900-090-005167 and the text read: Free Verizon Message: Your phone will soon be upgraded to Android 4.0. At that time we will remove your Verizon Wireless Mobile IM app because it is no longer supported on Android 4.0. Please download a new instant messaging app to use IM on your phone. Thank you for using Mobile IM!” I immediately check my phone for an update but there were none.

  6. No text.message either and I live in LA.

  7. I should also mention that my mobile IM app is missing so Verizon must have already removed it, but I didn’t get any notification saying that they had actually removed it.

  8. Just went to my Verizon guy who is pretty up to date with everything and he said ics for Droid Razr is scheduled to release in September due to complications…. He has no idea where these rumors are coming from…. -_-

  9. The comment saying Verizon guy mentioned September! You sure he don’t work for cricket cause that’s totally false? End of 2nd quarter so that’s within this month.. The text from Verizon is a good sign! Won’t be long

  10. My brother in law works for the local Verizon corporate store and in a staff meeting they had yesterday afternoon their boss handed out a RAZR ICS troubleshooting guide to the technical support guys at the store along with that they need to be familiar with it by the beginning of next week because the update will be rolling out.

  11. My brother is in upper management for a development team for verizon and he said the ics update will not come out for the razr untill after the razr hd gets released to make that phone more appealing to buyers.

  12. If you look on the Verizon support page, it says update available on 6/18/2012, I checked it this morning

  13. I got the text last night…same one as Brian above…

  14. will the motorola droid razr get 4.0 ICS too because i havent got the txt message, or is it just for the motorola droid razr maxx?? please answer:/
i need to know if my droid razr is going to get 4.0 ics too because i want to download many apps that only work on Android 4.0 ICS, like Google chrome beta for android. and many others.. please let me know if droid razr users will get ics along with droid razr maxx users..

  17. I’m a tech support for Verizon wireless and to my understanding the update will roll out beginning June 18th at 12:01 am.

  18. bryan please post link to were you saw update 6/18

  19. No text up here in Seattle…just a longing desire for some Ice Cream Sandwich love…… :)

  20. I looked at the support page and it doesn’t mention anywhere that the update is on the 18th

  21. The wait couldnt have anything to do with Verizon wanting to continue to use ICS as a selling point for the latest round of Samsung crap phones. Naaah that couldnt be it…..

  22. @Bryan
Can you post the link that shows the update coming 6-18-12

  23. Ics is no longer scheduled for 2nd quarter. Sorry guys, just enjoy the gingerbread until the 4.0 is finally released (my guess Q3) … Absolutely nothing wrong with the razr anyway…

  24. I heard that those texts weren’t from Verizon. I’m also hearing a alot aboyt September being the release date, not sure if its true or not, but people are saying that Verizon said that even though Moto may be releasing the update to them this month, they are not rolling it out this month. Hope to to that’s not true. But honestly, I’m not believing anything until I get the notification that an update is available. I’m tired of being fed lies and being left in the dark. We shouldn’t have to wait this long for something yhat should have been released a long time ago.

  25. I spoke to Verizon, according to them they never sent a text
