The Motorola Droid Razr MAXX 4G Android smartphone delivers the Gingerbread operating system out-of-the-box, with a promised upgrade over the air to the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) OS by the end of June. That handset keeps all the high end features of its sibling, the Motorola Droid Razr 4G, and adds an 85% larger battery, delivering the best talk time or video playback provided from a single charge of any 4G smartphone. The handset also delivers high definition video recording and a substantial RAM memory allotment, and recently Verizon lowered the retail price to $99 with a standard new two-year activation and data plan at select authorized retailers, however Verizon direct retail stores still have the device priced at $299.
The Droid Razr MAXX arrived in early January, and is exclusive to the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE system. That handset was designed in typical candy bar form factor, with a Kevlar and aluminum coating which offers splashproof protection. Measuring 5.15 x 2.71 x 0.35 inches (130.7 x 68.9 x 8.99 mm) and weighing 5.11 ounces (145 g), the Droid Razr MAXX is thinner than most handsets, and slightly heavier.
The Super AMOLED Advanced capacitive touchscreen runs 4.30 inches, and delivers a pixel density of 256 pixels per inch. Displays are represented in 16 million separate colors, and overall screen resolution runs 540 x 960 pixels. Standard light and proximity sensors offer auto brightness adjustment and battery conservation features, and that display is protected by an overlay of Corning Gorilla Glass, which offers scratch resistance and glare reduction.
A Texas Instruments OMAP 4430 microchip package powers the Motorola Droid Razr MAXX 4G, and two of its main components are the dual core 1.2 GHz Cortex A9 central processor and graphics dedicated PowerVR SGX540 GPU. The handset delivers the most out-of-the-box storage of any 4G smartphone at 32 GB, including a removable 16 GB microSD card that ships with the handset as well as 16 GB of storage that are built-in. 1.0 GB of RAM system memory is also present, as is a microSD slot.
An 8.0 megapixel camcorder on the back of the handset delivers video capture at 1,920 x 1,080 (1,080p HD) and 30 frames per second, and the front facing 1.3 megapixel chat cam also offers video call capabilities. The multimedia package on board the Droid Razr MAXX 4G includes a music player that filters by album, artist or play list and supports all major file formats, as well as a proprietary YouTube video player. You can buy the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx starting at $99.
