With the sudden flurry of activities due to the entrance of the Samsung Galaxy S III in the smartphone market, there are a couple of handsets, capable devices at that, that get sort of neglected, because all of the attention is focused on the Samsung flagship device. Take the case of the HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE for example.
The handset is one of the latest additions to Verizon’s lineup of Android-powered devices with support for its LTE network but the handset is not getting as much digital ink as the Samsung Galaxy S III. In fact, the handset also encountered numerous delays such as the Samsung flagship but nobody seems to care. Which is actually unfair for the handset because it is also a very capable device when you come to think of it.
Verizon announced the addition of the HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE to its stable about a month and a half ago and during its unveiling, the carrier let it slip that the handset will hit its shelves in the coming weeks. Sad to say, that is not to be the case as delays precluded the carrier from lining up its shelves with the HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE. And then came reports that the handset is set to make its debut last June 21. Unfortunately, this did not pan out yet again and Verizon had no comment on the matter.
A couple of days back, there were rumors that intimated that the HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE can now be expected to make its appearance in the shelves of Verizon on July 5. Verizon is yet to confirm nor deny the said information but the Equipment Guide of the wireless carrier has already confirmed the July 5 launch of the handset.
Although Verizon gave no indication as to what was causing the delay in the launch, it appears that the carrier had difficulties in figuring out where the HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE fits in its summer lineup. However, these delays in my opinion only served to hurt the handset’s chances of making it big at Verizon. Getting released in the shadow of the Samsung Galaxy S III will definitely have an impact on the sales performance of the HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE as the smartphone-buying population will choose to wait for the Samsung flagship given the fact that it is a whole lot more powerful than the HTC handset.
As for the price point of the handset, the Verizon Equipment Guide has pegged a $199.99 price tag for the HTC Droid Incredible 4G but since the 16GB variant of the Verizon will be made available at the same price point, a $50 mail-in rebate is included in the package of the HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE to bring its price down to just $149.99 to entice more prospective buyers in the process.
