Verizon Galaxy Nexus 4G – Jelly Bean 4.1 on The Way, Unofficially Already Out

The Verizon Galaxy Nexus 4G is one of the least expensive handsets that 4G LTE system in the US offers. However, the performance is much better than the price tag would have you believe. And recently, Google stated that the Verizon Galaxy Nexus 4G would receive an over the air operating system update to the new 4.1 Jelly Bean OS, promising delivery by the end of September with no other details. As the Android operating system is an open platform, smart developers have already got a hold of the Jelly Bean 4.1 operating system and created several different builds for the Verizon Galaxy Nexus 4G that are available in multiple Android forms online. However, both Verizon and Google remind that this is not the official OS update, and recommend waiting on the officially licensed version.

Delivering Android’s 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) operating system to a smartphone for the first time in the United States, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus 4G Android smartphone was exclusive to the Verizon network up until recently. As a best selling and flagship phone for the Verizon 4G LTE system in the US, Verizon has since seen competition from Sprint as that handset also arrived on their US network. However, competition is always good for the consumer, and Verizon has decided to lower their retail price on the Galaxy Nexus 4G, making it one of the least expensive handsets on their entire network.

The handset still delivers one of the largest high resolution screens in the entire smartphone marketplace, high-resolution video capture, a powerful dual core processor and Google integration. Google Search, Gmail, YouTube, Google Talk, Google Maps and Picasa applications are pre-installed, and the handset delivers Near Field Communications (NFC) wireless support for applications like the retail payment processing Google Wallet and the wireless data share application Android Beam. Still one of the slimmest handsets even though it has been around for almost 9 months now, the Verizon Samsung Galaxy Nexus 4G measures only 0.37 inches (9.47 mm) in thickness.

That slim profile supports one of the largest screens of any smartphone, at 4.65 inches. Pixel density runs to the extreme high end at 316 pixels per inch, giving the Super AMOLED display an overall resolution of 720 x 1,280 pixels. Standard multitouch capacitive gestures are used to navigate the device, and more than 16 million colors are used to create visual displays.

Talk time runs 50% better than the average 4G smartphone at 12.00 hours from a single battery charge. The handset is run by a dual core 1.2 GHz CPU, and a separate GPU handles all graphics requests. The 32 GB of built-in, user accessible storage leads the 4G field, and a 5.0 megapixel camcorder records video at 1,080P HD resolution and 30 frames per second. Around front there is an accompanying 1.3 megapixel chat cam.
