Although it is one of the least expensive handsets offered by the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network in the United States, the Verizon Galaxy Nexus still delivers top-notch performance and high-end features nearly a year after it arrived on December 15 of 2011. Landing in the United States as the first handset with Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) 4.0 out-of-the-box, the handset is now one of the first to deliver Android’s 4.1 Jelly Bean to a US smartphone. The handset delivers one of the largest screens in the entire mobile marketplace for a smartphone, one of the highest display resolutions as well, and the most out-of-the-box built-in data storage available anywhere.

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus for Verizon is on sale now starting at 29.99.

Also present are a speedy dual core processor, high resolution video recording and Near Field Communications (NFC) support out-of-the-box. NFC technology allows for wireless data transfer, supporting applications like the retail payment processing Google Wallet and data share apps like Android Beam. Independent reviewer RootMetrics rated the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network as the fastest and most dependable at offering true 4G speeds of all four major US networks, and the Verizon Galaxy Nexus 4G is capable of simultaneous voice and data access on that wireless system.

Verizon Galaxy Nexus customers can expect speeds of 5 to 12 megabits per second (Mbps) during downloads, and upload speeds run approximately 2 to 5 Mbps when the handset is located in a Verizon 4G LTE mobile broadband coverage area. Though it delivers a huge screen and tons of high-performance hardware, the handset is still skinny at only 0.37 inches (9.47 mm), weighing 5.29 ounces (150 g). That large 4.65 inch Super AMOLED display delivers a high-end screen resolution of 720 x 1,280 pixels, offered at a rate higher than most every other 4G LTE handset, 316 pixels every inch.

The handset also delivers a Texas Instruments OMAP 4460 microchip package which is constructed around a speedy dual core 1.2 GHz Cortex A9 CPU. Also on board is a PowerVR SGX540 GPU that exclusively handles graphics processing, 1.0 GB of RAM system memory is also present, and the 32 GB of built-in data storage is the most found on any smartphone out-of-the-box. The rear facing 5.0 megapixel camcorder provides video capture at 1,080P HD resolution, and a front facing chat cam is also on board.
