Generally speaking, you can pretty much tell exactly what a smartphone has to offer these days by looking at its price first. As with everything else in the consumer-electronics field, the better features and newest technologies are usually located in the highest priced devices. That is not a mystery, and pricing has been this way concerning consumer technology and electronics for a long time. However, every now and then competition between major competitors gives the customer the ultimate victory. Such is the case with the Verizon Galaxy Nexus 4G Android smartphone, which is the least expensive and the lowest priced handset that Verizon offers, while still delivering one of the best feature sets found on a current smartphone.

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus for Verizon is on sale now starting at $49.99.

You may recall the Galaxy Nexus 4G was the first handset to deliver the much-anticipated Android Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) version 4.0 operating system to the US for the first time. That was way back in December of last year, but to its credit the Samsung Galaxy Nexus 4G for Verizon is still favorably comparable to those phones which carry three digit price tags and offer a great feature package. After Verizon’s most recent retail price reduction however, you won’t have to pay three digits, or even two digits for the handset.

Verizon lowered the Galaxy Nexus 4G retail price to the bottom of the barrel compared to their other handsets because it recently also appeared on the rival Sprint network in the United States. Out-of-the-box the handset still delivers the ICS Android operating system, currently version 4.0.4. The Verizon Samsung Galaxy Nexus 4G delivers Near Field Communications (NFC) support out-of-the-box, offers one of the largest high resolution screens found on any smartphone, runs on a powerful dual core processor and delivers high resolution video capture.

And at 0.37 inches (9.47 mm) in thickness, it does all this as one of the slimmest smartphones currently available. Visually the 4.65 inch high-res display offers one of the highest pixel densities and largest screen sizes of any handset. Pixels are displayed at 316 per inch, giving the display an overall resolution of 720 x 1,280 pixels. The Super AMOLED screen is protected against scratching by an Oleophobic coating, and standard proximity and light sensors are on board.

The proximity sensor helps conserve battery life, and that leads the Verizon Galaxy Nexus 4G to deliver a full 50% better talk time from a single charge than the average 4G smartphone. 12.00 hours of talk time can be expected from a single charge, and the handset runs on a dual core 1.2 GHz CPU. The 32 GB of built-in storage are the most offered by any handset, and 1.0 GB of RAM system memory is present. A rear facing 5.0 megapixel camcorder provides video capture at 1,080P HD.

Buy the Samsung Galaxy Nexus for Verizon now starting at $49.99.
