The Samsung Galaxy  S III smartphone had some big shoes to fill when it arrived on the AT&T 4G LTE system in the US. The entire Galaxy line of handsets for Samsung had been incredibly successful with the wireless service providers which offered them, and very popular with the customers who purchased them. The Samsung Galaxy S II Android smartphone has sold more than 50 million units and counting globally, and as it turned out the Galaxy  S III picked up right where it’s popular and best-selling predecessor left off. The handset was officially launched on July 12 for the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network in the US, and delivers a large high-resolution screen, high-resolution video capture, Near Field Communications (NFC) support out-of-the-box and Android’s 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) operating system.

A unique feature on the Samsung Galaxy S III for Verizon is the Color App. This handy application of allows Samsung Galaxy  S III users to broadcast live video blurbs up to 60 seconds, complete with audio, as well as still images. Those images and videos can be instantly shared with your Facebook friends, and the handset is offered in your choice of either Marble White or Pebble Blue. NFC capabilities mean instant support for wireless payment processing applications like Google Wallet, and touch to share data share applications like Android Beam, which wirelessly shares data, snapshots, applications and other info with other Android Beam devices with a simple tap.

The handset also delivers a neat Share Shot feature which lets you set up a temporary photo sharing network with any other Samsung Galaxy S III handset owners who are within Wi-Fi connectivity distance. As soon as a Wi-Fi connection is made, any photos you take are instantly shared with other Share Shot group of members in that network. The Samsung Galaxy S III running on Verizon’s 4G LTE system delivers the ICS 4.0.4 operating system out-of-the-box, with the recent Google promise to upgrade over the air wirelessly to the new Jelly Bean 4.1 operating system by the end of Q3 in the United States.

Measuring 5.39 x 2.80 x 0.34 inches (137 x 71 x 8.6 mm) and weighing 4.70 ounces (133 g), the Verizon Galaxy S III is light and thin compared to other 4G smartphones. But even with that thin, light chassis, the 4.8 inch display on board the handset is one of the largest you will find on any smartphone. That display is protected by a scratch resistant layer of Corning Gorilla Glass two, and the pixel density of 316 pixels per inch lies at the high end of the 4G smartphone marketplace comparatively. Using more than 16 million colors to render visuals, the Super AMOLED display offers an overall screen resolution of 720 x 1,280 pixels. With 12.0 to 15.0 hours of talk time offered from a single charge, the handset almost doubles the average 4G smartphone battery performance.

The handset delivers a powerful 1.5 GHz dual core central processor, and a separate Adreno 225 GPU focuses entirely on graphics processing. The GS III is one of the first handsets to deliver 2.0 GB of RAM system memory, and 32 GB of built-in, user accessible data storage are offered out-of-the-box.
