As of the moment, the phablet category in the smartphone competition has been for the longest time dominated by Samsung and its Galaxy Note and Galaxy Note II phablets. This has been going on for quite some time now because no other OEM can come up with a worthy competitor to the Samsung phablets. Well, LG attempted the impossible when it unveiled the LG Optimus VU but the LG phablet still fell short of the expectations and was only capable of offering competition to the Samsung phablet.
The domination shown by the Samsung Galaxy Note (during its heydays) and the Galaxy Note II was made possible because of the fact that these Samsung phablets came to the table with impressive resumes and even more impressive capabilities –not to mention the fact that their massive displays gave the smartphone-buying population more screen real estate to play with. This time around, it is the turn of the Samsung Galaxy Note II to lord over the phablet category and along with the Samsung Galaxy S III forms a very potent one-two punch combination for the Korean smartphone and tablet manufacturer in the smartphone competition.
However, the domination of the phablet market being enjoyed by the Samsung Galaxy Note II is now threatened by the arrival of the HTC Droid DNA, the Taiwanese smartpone manufacturer’s take on the phablet category. Albeit coming in at a slightly smaller screen real estate at just 5.0 inches compared to the Galaxy Note II’s 5.5 inches, the HTC Droid DNA is still a very potent adversary to the second generation Samsung phablet because it is actually able to match the resume of the Samsung Galaxy Note II spec by spec and even gets away with edging out the competition in terms of sheer screen resolution.
However, that is not the only reason the HTC Droid DNA can upset the Samsung Galaxy Note II in the phablet competition and one of the ore important factors being looked at right now is price point. With that in mind, Verizon has already given its authorized resellers to slash the price of the HTC Droid DNA making the HTC phablet more affordable than ever. You will still be required to sign a new two-year service agreement with Big Red though if you want to get your hands on the HTC Droid DNA at its listed price.
As for the HTC Droid DNA, it has its circuitry built around its QualComm APQ8064 SnapDragon chipset which comes with a quad-core Krait processor clocked at 1.5 GHz working in conjunction with a staggering 2GB of RAM to generate the computing power required by the device for a flawless performance. The storage space of the HTC Droid DNA is a bit meager at just 16GB with no option for memory expansion here. Display-wise, it sports a 5.0-inch SuperLCD 3 panel with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels (nope, that’s not a typo) while its camera department boasts of a rear 8MP shooter and a front 2.1MP snapper.
