In today’s smartphone world, the Samsung Galaxy Note II is still the undisputed king of the hill in the phablet category of the smartphone competition. This is not surprising at all given the fact that the second generation Samsung phablet boasts of a massive 5.5-inch screen real estate that makes it the epitome of the word phablet – a cross between a smartphone and a tablet. The rule of the Samsung Galaxy Note II on the phablet competition was also due to the fact that other manufacturers who released their respective phablets failed to come up with a handset that would really give the Samsung superphone a serious run for its money.
Things changed however when Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer joined the phablet fray with the announcement of its HTC Droid DNA which was released by Verizon Wireless in our side of the world. Though the screen size of the HTC phablet is not as massive as its Samsung competitor, this gives way to a smaller and less massive chassis for the device which makes it a whole lot friendlier to the front pocket of your jeans compared to the Samsung behemoth. Not only that, the 1920 x 1080 display of the HTC Droid DNA also blows the display of the Samsung Galaxy Note II out of the water with its higher resolution display.
Of course, it is also a given that the components of the HTC Droid DNA are just as impressive as those found in the internals of the second generation Samsung phablet. In fact, the only negative thing that can be said for the HTC Droid DNA is the lack of a microSD card slot in the device for memory expansion purposes and a non-user replaceable power pack in its chassis. Despite that, the HTC Droid DNA more than makes up for this by being made available in a very affordable price point.
That’s correct folks! Verizon currently has an offer that will let you get your hands on the HTC Droid DNA at a much affordable price point. In fact, Big Red has already given the greenlight to its authorized resellers to sell the HTC phabet at a sub-450 price point which is only a fraction of its orginal hefty premium price tag (carrier prices remain the same). Of course, you will still be required to sign a new two-year service agreement with the wireless provider if you are interested in taking advantage of the HTC Droid DNA at its heavily discounted price point.
As for the HTC Droid DNA, the handset relies on its QualComm APQ8064 SnapDragon chipset to power its operations while a quad-core 1.5 GHz Krait processor works in conjunction with a whopping 2GB of RAM in coming up with the needed computing power of the device. The storage space onboard the HTC Droid DNA comes up to only 16GB which is a bit measly considering the lack of support for memory expansion on the handset. As for its display, the HTC Droid DNA sports a 5.0-inch SuperLCD3 panel with a 1920 x 1080 resolution while its camera department is comprised of a rear 8MP shooter and a front 2.1MP video call and self-portrait snapper.
