htconeHTC President Jason Mackenzie earlier this month guaranteed that the HTC One Developer Edition Android 4.4 KitKat update would be delivered by the end of November, and that the update will deliver the Sense 5.5 Android UI upgrade. It appears that his company is on schedule to deliver on that promise, and recently Mackenzie also announced that carrier supported HTC One smartphones would be receiving Android’s 4.4 by the end of January at the latest.

The Verizon HTC One can be purchased at a reduced sale price starting at $79.99.

That announcement comes in line with previous Android 4.4 KitKat declarations by HTC and Mackenzie, and should make a good New Year’s present for HTC One smartphone owners. The handset delivered the Android 4.1.2 operating system out-of-the-box originally, but has since been upgraded. As the HTC flagship and one of the bestsellers for Verizon, that handset recently received a retail price reduction at a notable online retail outlet. Amazon has dropped the price on the Verizon HTC One 4G to just $79 with a standard two-year contract.

The HTC Sense TV application employs an infrared sensor which is built into the phone, allowing you to easily control your TV, set-top box, and home theater remotely. You can also channel surf with Sense TV, access program guides, adjust audio on your television set and select TV channels. You can even set up notifications so your phone will remind you when your favorite television shows are about to start. HTC has quietly been at the forefront of creating environmentally friendly smartphones, and the HTC One draws the highest level of praise, platinum certification, from independent testing lab UL Environment as providing a minimal environmental impact through its life cycle.

The camera on the back of the HTC One smartphone delivers unique UltraPixel technology, the handset debuts a new premium metal unibody design, and HTC designers have given the HTC One dual front facing stereo speakers and Beats Audio sound enhancement. Slim at 0.37 inches (9.3 mm) in thickness, the phone nonetheless delivers a huge 4.70 inch Full HD display with a resolution of 1,080 x 1,920 pixels. The 468 ppi pixel density is an industry leader, and a second generation layer of Corning Gorilla Glass offers scratch resistance.

Battery performance is excellent, and a full charge delivers 8.5 hours of video playback, and more than 16 hours of talk time. The phone is powered by a powerful quad core 1.7 GHz Snapdragon 600 CPU, a generous 2.0 GB allotment of RAM memory is on board, as is 32 GB of built-in storage space. The rear mounted UltraPixel camera can capture slow-motion video at 768 x 432 pixels, and high definition video at 1,080P HD and 30 frames per second. That rear shooter also records simultaneous HD video and image capture in stereo sound, and is accompanied by a front facing chat cam in the handset’s camera combo. The Verizon HTC One can be purchased at a discounted price tag now starting at $79.99.
