With Verizon’s LTE network considered as the widest in US shores, it is only natural for the carrier to have a massive handset base of LTE-supporting handsets that its subscribers can use to take advantage of the benefits that this network brings about. And when it comes to the LTE handsets of Verizon, the LG Spectrum 4G is said to be the best LTE smartphone on a budget because of its reasonably affordable price point. Despite the cheap price of the handset, the LG Spectrum 4G still packs all the bells and whistles that one could look for in a smartphone.

However, the handset is still stuck in the Gingerbread generation to the disappointment of its users. Looking back, its manufacturer promised that the LG Spectrum 4G will get upgraded to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich during the first half of 2012. LG however is a manufacturer known for not being very timely in the release of updates for its handsets and since we are already in the second half of the year, it isn’t surprising at all that users of the LG Spectrum 4G are still waiting for their handsets to get treated to Ice Cream Sandwich.
About two months ago, an early build of Ice Cream Sandwich for the LG Spectrum 4G got leaked and this gave hope to the users of the handset that the official update is just around the corner. Sad to say, days turned into weeks and weeks turned into months with no official word from either LG or Verizon about the official ICS update for the handset. Just when users of the LG Spectrum 4G were about to give up, some encouraging news recently came out with regard to the official ICS rollout for the handset.
Apparently, an LG representative in the support forums of the manufacturer has let it slip that the ICS update for the LG Spectrum 4G is getting very close to rollout. Sad to say, there was no mention of an ETA for the rollout and the representative literally passed the buck to Verizon to make the announcement. However, the said representative gave the impression that the ICS update is really, really close, it’s just that he can’t give out any dates until an official announcement is made by the wireless provider.
As for the LG Spectrum 4G, the handset was announced by Verizon back in January and it also made its debut in the shelves of the carrier in the same month. The handset packs a QualComm MSM8660 SnapDragon chipset under the hood and this SoC gives the smartphone a dual-core 1.5 GHz Scorpion processor and a full gigabyte of RAM. Storage space on the handset is a bit meager at just 4GB but since this is still expandable, it shouldn’t be an issue at all. Display-wise, the LG Spectrum 4G packs a 4.5-inch HD-IPS LCD panel with a 1280 x 720 resolution while its camera department is composed of a rear 8MP shooter capable of 1080p video capture and a front-facing 1.3MP camera for video calls and self-portraits.
