There has been a Verizon Motorola Moto X 4G smartphone spotted running the KitKat Android 4.4.2 operating system recently. Since Motorola Mobility was purchased by Google, owner of the Android operating system, it was expected that all new Motorola smartphones would be among the first to receive operating system updates. That was the plan according to Google and Motorola, but that simply has not transpired. Recent issues with compatibility between Android 4.4 and some Motorola devices like the Moto X have caused delays in those smartphones receiving the latest and greatest Droid software.
But on at least one handset, Android’s 4.4.2 KitKat OS has been spotted running. This version of Android is expected to address a battery drain problem some Moto X users have experienced, and at least one lucky Moto X smartphone owner recently received the Android 4.4.2 boost on his handset. A note Android informant with a long history of providing substantial and infallible Droid information confirmed on Twitter that his phone is also running the 4.4.2 software reported by the above-mentioned Moto X owner. The user reporting the over the air upgrade is known as “odin2347″ on Reddit, and said that he was prompted for an over the air update to Android 4.4 KitKat soon after purchasing the device new. He was then prompted for a second update for version 4.4.2, and it appears that software was built as recently as January 10.
Motorola is currently running some tests through its feedback network, and it is still unsure how the 4.4.2 update made its way to this particular Moto X owner’s handset, but the rest of us are still in a holding pattern waiting for the new software. This could be good news that a delivery is on the horizon, and the fact that so far this Moto X Android 4.4.2 handset has been performing perfectly means that there may not be any compatibility issues to slow down the over the air transfer any longer.
The Verizon Motorola Moto X 4G offers a large 4.7 inch display with True HD 720P resolution, protected by a layer of scratch resistant Corning Gorilla Glass. Motorola promises a minimum of 13.0 hours of all-around usage after a full battery charge, and 10.0 days of standby power. The Motorola X8 computing package (a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro MSM8960 uniquely aligned with six other operational cores) joins 2.0 GB of RAM and 16 GB of built-in storage in the handset’s hardware package.
A free 50 GB worth of Google Drive virtual storage is also given to all Motorola Moto X 4G smartphone purchasers, and the 10.0 megapixel Quick Capture camera on the back of the phone records video in 1,080P Full HD resolution and in stereo sound, as well as in a 16 to 9 aspect ratio with slow motion capabilities. That main shooter delivers a multishot burst mode, high dynamic range mode (HDR), 4X digital zoom and wide-shot panorama mode, and a 2.0 megapixel chat cam is on the front of the handset.
