With 2012 nearing its end in just a couple of months, wireless providers are beginning to come up with their yearend lineup and one of the major carriers in US shores to give us an idea of what to expect regarding its yearend plans is Verizon. With this, the carrier has announced its intention to embrace the Windows Phone ecosystem and will in fact release two WP handsets for that matter.
Taking care of its high-end offering, Big Red will supposedly offer the HTC Windows Phone 8X while the more affordable role will be filled out handset from Finnish smartphone manufacturer Nokia. Looking back, Nokia was a t the forefront of things in terms of the smartphone competition a couple of years back with the popularity of its E-Series line of smartphones but that quickly ended when other manufacturers such as Apple, Samsung, Motorola, HTC and the like began flooding the market with their products thereby leaving no room for the “antiquated” smartphones of Nokia.
Nokia was able to bounce back though after it entered into a strategic alliance with Microsoft last year to start the production of handsets for the Windows Phone platform. And now, Nokia is continuing with that tradition having been chosen by Verizon to come up with a midrange smartphone for the carrier’s more affordable offering. The result – the Nokia Lumia 822.
As it stands, the Nokia Lumia 822 will become available for mass consumption for Verizon subscribers starting this Fall. Although no specific date has been nailed as of yet, rumors have it that the handset will make its debut in the shelves of the wireless provider on November 8 and come with a price tag of a reasonable $99.99 price point with the customary new two-year service contract with the Big Red.
As for the Nokia Lumia 822, the handset reached official status when it was unveiled this month but as mentioned earlier, there is no specific date yet as to when it will hit the shelves of Verizon. The handset has dimensions of 123.8 x 68.5 x 9.9 mm and it tips the scales at 160 grams.
Under the hood, the Nokia Lumia 822 boasts of a pretty decent specs sheet. Right smack in the middle of its circuit board lies a QualComm MSM8960 SnapDragon chipset to power its operations. This SoC brings into play a dual-core 1.5 GHz Krait processor and a full gigabyte of RAM for a flawless performance in its operations. In terms of storage capacity, the Nokia Lumia 822 comes with 8GB of onboard memory but a user can still expand this using the handset’s microSD card slot.
