The Verizon Galaxy Nexus 4G Android smartphone now has the long anticipated and much ballyhooed Jelly Bean 4.1 Android operating system in place. Big Red is generally the last of the big four wireless carriers in the United States to receive Android updates for whatever reason, but Jelly Bean access has finally arrived. When the Galaxy Nexus 4G Android smartphone arrived late last year at the tail end of the holiday shopping season, the handset delivered two important groundbreaking features.

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus for Verizon is on sale now starting at 29.99.

Offering a full 32 GB of out-of-the-box, built-in storage, the Verizon Galaxy Nexus 4G Android smartphone posted a 4G best feature. Also, it was the first handset to deliver the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system to US smartphone shoppers. That happened when the handset arrived on the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE system on December 15 of last year, and although the Galaxy Nexus 4G is nearly 10 months old, it still remains one of the best selling high-end smartphones in the entire mobile marketplace.

The handset delivers Near Field Communications (NFC) support out-of-the-box for data share apps like Android Beam, and wireless retail payment processing apps like Google Wallet. And Verizon Galaxy Nexus 4G Android smartphone owners can expect consistent download speeds of 5 to 12 megabits per second (Mbps) and upload speeds of 2 to 5 Mbps on their Verizon Galaxy Nexus smartphone when located inside Verizon’s 4G LTE mobile broadband coverage areas. And the handset is still one of the slimmest at only 0.37 inches (9.47 mm) in thickness.

Though skinny, the Verizon Galaxy Nexus delivers one of the largest screens of any smartphone, at 4.65 inches. The screen resolution of 720 x 1,280 pixels is offered at 316 pixels per inch, and both of those numbers lie at the high end compared to other smartphones. Light and proximity sensors are on board providing auto brightness adjustment and battery conservation features, and visuals are rendered in more than 16 million colors.

Talk time on Verizon’s 4G LTE system runs nearly 50% better than average 4G smartphone, with 12.00 hours offered from a single charge of the 1,850 mA battery on board. In the hardware package a Texas Instruments OMAP 4460 microchip bundle is built around a powerful dual core 1.2 GHz Cortex A9 central processor. A separate PowerVR SGX540GPU chip focuses on all graphics processing, and 1.0 GB of RAM system memory is on board. The rear facing 5.0 megapixel camcorder records video in 1,080P HD resolution, and a front facing VGA quality chat cam is also present.

  1. Your article states: “The handset delivers Near Field Communications (NFC) support out-of-the-box for data share apps like Android Beam, and wireless retail payment processing apps like Google Wallet.”

Google Wallet had been disabled by Verizon on the Galaxy Nexus prior to this. Can you confirm that Verizon has re-enabled it with the Jelly Bean update?
