Verizon Samsung Galaxy Nexus 4G – One Penny Price for the Holidays

Nearly a year after arriving in the United States on the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE system, the Galaxy Nexus 4G handset still ranks among the best performing Android smartphones globally. Still offering one of the highest display resolutions and largest screens on any smartphone, the handset was also the first to deliver the Android Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) 4.0 Android operating system to a US smartphone. The Verizon Galaxy Nexus 4G recently received an over the air update to the Jelly Bean 4.1 OS.

Retailing kingpin Amazon must be getting into the holiday spirit, as they have recently listed the Verizon Galaxy Nexus 4G Android smartphone for $0.01 on contract during their annual holiday sales event. One penny smartphones are generally the runt of the litter, but that is certainly not the case as regards the Verizon Galaxy Nexus 4G. The 32 GB of built-in data storage are the most found on any smartphone, and the 4.65 inch Super AMOLED screen is one of the largest found on any mobile handset. Resolution runs to the high-end of the mobile marketplace at 720 x 1,280 pixels, delivered at 316 pixels per inch.

With the new Jelly Bean 4.1 operating system delivering a smoother and faster user interface, better camera operation, and the upgraded Google Now contextual search engine and virtual personal assistant, the Verizon Galaxy Nexus 4G is a totally updated handset. The new Jelly Bean Google App Drawer is located front and center on your home screen, delivering access to your most frequently used features and applications, and it provides a much more clutter free experience.

And now true “voice to text” dictation is also possible with the new Android 4.1 operating system. Simultaneous voice and data access means you can surf the web or check your e-mail without interrupting a voice call, and the handset is super skinny at 0.37 inches (9.47 mm). Powered by a 1.2 GHz dual core CPU, a separate GPU chip handles all graphics processing. 1.0 GB of RAM system memory is on board, as is the above-mentioned 32 GB of data storage. The handset contains a Texas Instruments OMAP 4460 microchip package.

YouTube and Picasa applications have been pre-installed into the Verizon Galaxy Nexus 4G, as has Near Field Communications (NFC) wireless support. The handset delivers a front facing VGA quality chat cam for video calls and portrait snapshots, and joining it in the camera combo is a rear mounted 5.0 megapixel camcorder. That rear device is capable of recording video in 1,080P HD resolution.
