The Samsung Galaxy Note II is at the moment still the undisputed king of the hill of the phablet category of the smartphone competition. This is not surprising at all given the fact that the second generation Samsung phablet packs a specs sheet that is very impressive and it also has a massive screen real estate that make it the perfect example of what a phablet should be – a cross between a smartphone and a tablet.
Because of the gigantic display of the handset, the Samsung Galaxy Note II is able to bring impressive capabilities to the table like features such as Multi-window View. This feature enables a user to run two apps simultaneously on the handset’s screen. This feature is now widely available on most versions of the phablet that made it to shelves in US shores for quite some time now but Verizon subscribers who rock the carrier’s variant of the Samsung Galaxy Note II are still waiting for the feature to land on their handsets.
However, it looks like the waiting for the feature is about to end soon because Verizon confirmed that it will soon roll out the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update to its variant of the Samsung Galaxy Note II. The confirmation came when Big Red posted the details and changelog of the update on its official support site so we pretty much have an idea as to what goodies and treats the refresh will bring to the phablet. There was no mention of a specific time frame though but we are pretty sure it won’t be long soon and the update will start rolling out.
Once the update is applied to the phablet, it will crank up the baseband version of the Samsung Galaxy Note II to version I605VRAMC3 and at the same time bump up its build number to JZO54K.I605VRAMC3. This Android 4.1.2 refresh will also bring the following improvements to the Samsung Galaxy Note II:
- Download images via Enterprise Exchange email
- Download ring back tones through VZTones version 5.1.2 preloaded application
- Access downloaded languages on the Samsung keyboard
- Use Multi Window support for more applications
- (YouTube, Gmail, Facebook, Twitter, Amazon Kindle, Viewdini, Google Maps and Talk)
- Search or filter by Name in the dialer screen
- The snooze option in the Alarm Clock app is set to “ON” by default
- All Alarm Clock options are now viewable without the need to press the “more” button
- Added a Notification Panel editing menu under Display Settings
- Transfer content from your old device seamlessly with the
- Samsung Smart Switch application, now supported
Again, there is now timeframe given yet but once Verizon drops the word, Samsung Galaxy Note II users can start checking their handsets for that notification once the update is already available. Alternatively, they can also manually check for the update to get the whole process rolling for that matter. Either way, this will finally give the Samsung Galaxy Note II a taste of the much-awaited Android 4.1.2 refresh.
