gs3verizonArguably the most important handset of 2012, and receiving the Mobile World Congress (MWC) award as the Best Smartphone of last year, the Galaxy S III hit the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE system in the US in July of last year. The handset is available in either blue, black or white in the 32 GB version, and either blue, white, black or brown in the 16 GB version. That 16 GB variant recently received a bargain bin retail price tag, thanks to several factors.

First off, this time of year is perfect for smartphone shoppers. Handsets from last year, even though they may be high-performance models, have been around for a few months. New models in that same line will be released in the next 3 to 6 months, and this creates some downward pressure on the price tag of those best-selling smartphones. Also, wireless retailers want to ensure that they are not stuck with a bunch of smartphone stock when the new models begin to roll out. This is a “perfect storm” scenario for the smartphone shopper.

This allows you to get several of the best-selling, full-featured smartphones currently on the marketplace for a drastically reduced retail price. A good example is the 16 GB Verizon Wireless Galaxy S III, which was recently spotted at the Amazon Wireless store sporting a ____ on contract price tag. That handset delivers the Android 4.1 operating system, which meshes with the Samsung TouchWiz UX UI and supports multitouch, capacitive gestures.

Skinny at 0.34 inches (8.6 mm), the Galaxy S III handset is also light at 4.70 ounces (132 g). Considering the large 4.80 inch screen, the phone is exceptionally slim and light compared to other phones with the same size display. That Super AMOLED screen is protected by a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 2, and more than 16 million colors are present. Pixel density runs high at 306 pixels per inch, as does screen resolution, at 720 x 1,280 pixels.

The 2,100 mA battery on board the Verizon Galaxy S III delivers a full 15.0 hours of talk time from a full battery charge, and the handset is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus MSM8960 system chip. 2.0 GB of RAM memory is on board, as is a microSD slot, and the handset runs on a speedy dual core 1.5 GHz CPU. Closet shutterbugs can enjoy simultaneous HD video and image recording with the rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder, and video call support on the front facing chat cam. The Verizon Galaxy S III 16 GB variant provides NFC wireless support out-of-the-box, as well as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Picasa applications.
