When talking about LTE coverage in US shores, Verizon is still the undisputed king of the hill among the carriers in US shores with the breadth and width of its LTE network. AT&T comes in at second place while Sprint with its nascent LTE network is at the third spot. Being the league leader in terms of LTE coverage in our side of the world does not stop Big red though in taking an almost expansionist policy in ensuring that it keeps its lead in terms of coverage over the competitors.
In fact, the rollout of the Verizon LTE network happened at a very impressive rate. As of the moment, the wireless provider has already reached the 400 market milestone. Not only that, the carrier is aiming to provide LTE coverage to 260 million people (out of the 300 million population of US shores) by the end of 2012. In addition to that, the carrier also plans to complete the rollout of its LTE network by the middle of 2013 which is months ahead of its projected schedule and this would also solidify Big Red’s hold of the top spot in terms of LTE coverage in our side of the world.
In line with this expansionist policy, Verizon has recently announced that its LTE network will get lit up in a couple more markets and these new locations that will start enjoying blazing fast mobile internet speeds courtesy of Verizon starting November 15 are as follows:
- Laramie, Wyoming
- Rock Springs, Wyoming
- Grand Junction, Colorado
- Butte, Montana
- Mount Vernon, Illinois
- Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri
- “Central” Missouri
- Cody, Wyoming
A caveat however is that Verizon made it known via a press release that LTE coverage for the entire cities or areas in the location listed above may not be full but will eventually blanket all the locations in time.
With this development, users of the Verizon version of the Samsung Galaxy S III now have more locations to enjoy the benefits of the carrier’s ever-expanding LTE network. This means that those who rock the current Samsung flagship device in the areas mentioned above can start making use of their handsets come November 15 in experiencing what Verizon’s LTE network has to offer.
As for the Samsung Galaxy S III, the handset is rumored to get upgraded to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean soon. As of the moment, it is still running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich for its operating system and this draws power from the handset’s QualComm MSM8960 SnapDragon chipset. This SoC comes with a dual-core 1.5 GHz Krait processor and a whopping 2GB of RAM while for storage, the handset was made available in a 16GB and a 32GB model. Of course, the Samsung Galaxy S III also supports memory expansion via its microSD card slot. In terms of its display, the handset comes with a 4.8-inch SuperAMOLED HD panel made from Gorilla Glass 2 and has a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels while its dual-shooter configuration boasts of a rear 8MP shooter and a front 1.9MP snapper.
