This holiday season delivers the popular annual Amazon Wireless sales event, and included is the Verizon Galaxy S III in both 16 GB and 32 GB models. The 16 GB GS III running on the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE system in the United States is currently sale priced at under $80 on contract, with the 32 GB model going for less than $200 on contract. Consumer Reports recently named Verizon Wireless the top wireless retailer in the United States, a sentiment echoed earlier this year by independent reviewer RootMetrics, who found the 4G LTE system of Verizon to be the fastest and most reliable in the US.
On that speedy 4G LTE network the Galaxy S III arrived on July 12 of this year, and is offered in a variety of colors. The TouchWiz UX user interface is present, supporting capacitive, multitouch gestures. Device dimensions run 5.39 x 2.80 x 0.34 inches (137 x 71 x 8.6 mm) and the handset weighs 4.70 ounces (133 g). That makes the Verizon Galaxy S III light and slim for a 4G smartphone, while the display is one of the largest found on any mobile handset.
That 4.80 inch Super AMOLED screen contains a light sensor which automatically adjusts your screen brightness, taking into account the amount of ambient light present. The built-in proximity sensor dims the handset whenever you lift it to make or receive a voice call, adding power conservation features. With a pixel density of 306 pixels per inch delivering more than 16 million colors, overall screen resolution runs high 720 x 1,280 pixels. Corning has added a 2nd generation layer of Gorilla Glass to provide scratch and chip protection.
Talk time on the Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III 4G is high from a single charge, running 15.0 hours. The 2,100 mA battery also delivers standby battery power of 8.3 days, and Samsung chose a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus MSM8960 system chip to power the handset. Included is a dual core 1.5 GHz central processor and Adreno 225 GPU, as well as 2.0 GB of RAM system memory. Both 16 and 32 GB models offer microSD, microSDHC and microSDXC data storage expansion, supporting cards up to 64 GB in size.
The Verizon Galaxy S III offers the popular applications Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and Picasa pre-installed out-of-the-box, and the handset also delivers Near Field Communications (NFC) support. The GS III delivers a front facing 1.9 megapixel chat cam and rear installed 8.0 megapixel camcorder in its camera combo, with video recording running 1,080P HD resolution. The Verizon Galaxy S III also offers the capability of simultaneously capturing high definition video and snapshots, and has an extensive special effects camera package.
