Slated to arrive in June in the United States, the Galaxy S III 4G smartphone manufacturer Samsung finally arrived on the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE system in the US on July 12. That handset is also available from other wireless carriers in the US, and that competition has benefited the Android smartphone shopper, as Verizon recently reduced the retail price of their Galaxy S III. The Verizon handset contains an exclusive Color App, which allows for photos and 60 second videos to be broadcast live and instantly shared on your Facebook network. The handset is offered in marble white or pebble blue currently, and delivers Near Field Communications (NFC) support out-of-the-box. NFC wireless technology allows for data share through the S Beam application with other Galaxy S III devices, and support for the Google Wallet wireless retail payment processing application.
The Samsung Galaxy S III for Verizon is on sale now starting at 149.99.
The handset also delivers a Share Shot camera feature which makes further use of the NFC technology. That application allows you to set up a photo sharing network with other Galaxy S III owners who are within your Wi-Fi connectivity range, and any photos taken by any member of the group are instantly shared with everyone. Offering the Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) operating system out-of-the-box with the Samsung TouchWiz UX UI interface, the Verizon Galaxy S III accepts standard multitouch capacitive gestures for device navigation. The handset weighs 4.70 ounces (133 g) and measures 5.39 x 2.80 x 0.34 inches (137 x 71 x 8.6 mm), making it light and thin in comparison to other 4G smartphones.
The touch screen display on the Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III is as large as the handset is skinny, and that 4.80 inch Super AMOLED screen is one of the largest found on any smartphone. A protective layer of second generation Corning Gorilla Glass 2 protects the screen from chipping and scratching, and the pixel density of 316 pixels per inch is one of the highest in the entire smartphone marketplace. That gives the screen an overall resolution of 720 x 1,280 pixels, and the extended life 2,100 mA battery delivers a full 15.00 hours of talk time from a single charge, nearly double the average 4G yield of 8.0 hours.
The hardware package on board includes a Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon microchip suite that is centered around a powerful 1.5 GHz dual core central processor. An entirely separate Adreno 225 GPU handles all graphics processing, and video out is offered through a wired microHDMI connection or wireless DLNA connectivity. As one of the first smartphones to offer a full 2.0 GB of RAM memory, the Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III offers the most out-of-the-box, built-in data storage at 32 GB. A microSD slot is provided for storage expansion, and supports cards up to 64 GB. A front facing 1.9 megapixel chat cam joins a rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder in the camera combo, and that rear snapper provides video capture at 1,080P HD resolution.
