Until now, the Samsung Galaxy Note II is still the undisputed king of the hill of the phablet category of the smartphone competition. No surprise here given the fact that the second generation Samsung phablet is the personification of what a phablet should really be – a combination of a smartphone and a tablet. The domination of the Samsung Galaxy Note II of the phablet category is not due to a lack of competitors. It’s just that the phablets from other manufacturers failed miserably in taking the Samsung phablet off its lofty perch.

The HTC Droid DNA 4G is available for a reduced sale price now starting at $0.01.

Things however changed when HTC decided to join the phablet competition when it unveiled the HTC Droid DNA which was released by Verizon in our side of the world. Though the HTC phablet was at a disadvantage because of its slightly smaller 5.0-inch display, it evened things out because its display came with a Full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. In addition to that, the slightly smaller display meant that the HTC Droid DNA also has a smaller chassis that led to a more “pocketable” frame compared to the gargantuan size of the Samsung Galaxy Note II – an attribute that appeals more to some of our smartphone-crazed brethren.

And with the HTC One, the current flagship device of the Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer, still not getting the confirmation if it will make its way to the shelves of Big Red, Tom Harlin, an HTC exec, confirmed last week that the HTC Droid DNA remains as the hero smartphone of HTC in the Android lineup of Verizon. However, these are not the only good things going on for the HTC phablet.

As it stands, the HTC Droid DNA is now more affordable than ever because Verizon has already slashed the price point of the HTC phablet. We’ve seen the price point of the handset become lower a couple of times in the past but this most recent price cut that put the price of the HTC Droid DNA below the $20 mark is the lowest we’ve seen so far. Not only that, this is also the price point of the handset should you purchase it at Verizon-authorized resellers. Those interested in taking advantage of the HTC Droid DNA at its heavily discounted price point will be required to sign a new two-year contract with Big Red for that matter.

For those who want to know more about the HTC Droid DNA, the handset runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean for its operating system and this draws power from the handset’s QualComm APQ8064 SnapDragon chipset. The handset on the other hand relies on its quad-core 1.5 GHz Krait processor and 2GB of RAM to deliver the computing muscle it requires for a snappy and stutter-free performance. The storage space of the HTC Droid DNA is a bit meager though because it only has 16GB of onboard storage with no option for memory expansion. Its display as mentioned earlier is a 5.0-inch Super LCD3 panel with a 1920 x 1080 resolution while its camera department features a rear 8MP shooter and a front 2.1MP snapper.

The HTC Droid DNA 4G can be purchased at a discounted price tag now starting at $0.01.
