It is official, folks. Samsung now has a competitor in the oversized smartphone category after Verizon officially announced the LG Intuition which is set to make its debut in the shelves of the wireless provider on September 6. The announcement was made via a press release and the launch date as confirmed by Verizon has proven that the rumors about the supposed launch date of the LG phablet in US shores were spot on.
For those not in the know, the LG Intuition is the Verizon version of the LG Optimus Vu, LG’s entry to the phablet category. It is the manufacturer’s answer to the Galaxy Note of Samsung and similar to the phabet of its neighbor, the LG Intuition also comes with a massive screen real estate but its display is slightly smaller than the original Galaxy Note.
The LG Intuition will be available online starting September 6 but those interested in making the LG phablet their next mobile weapon of choice only have to wait until September 10 for the stocks of the smartphone to become available in the brick and mortar stores of Verizon. The LG phablet will come with a price tag of $199.99 provided that you sign a contract that stipulates that Verizon will be your carrier of choice for two more years. It was rumored a couple of days back that if you don’t want to get tied with Verizon, you have the option of picking up the LG Intuition on its hefty off-contract price of $549.99 although there was no mention of that in the press statement.
The LG Intuition will come with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on board as its operating system. it also comes preinstalled with a couple of additional applications courtesy of LG such as Tag+ and QuickMemo. The Tag+ application makes use of the LG Intuition NFC support and enables users to switch profiles and perform actions by using an NFC sticker. QuickMemo on the other hand gives users the capability to take notes on the fly and share these via SMS, email or social network. Similar to the Samsung Galaxy Note, the LG Intuition also comes with a capacitive stylus called the Rubberdium Pen although it doesn’t come with enhanced functionalities such as the Galaxy Note’s S-Pen.
The LG Intuition measures 139.6 x 90.4 x 8.5 mm and it tips the scales at 168 grams. The chipset under its hood is yet to be identified although it has been confirmed that the LG Intuition will come with a dual-core processor clocked at 1.5 GHz and a full gigabyte of RAM. Storage space on the LG phablet comes up to 32GB although there is no option to have it expanded while its display, though not as massive as the Galaxy Note’s, is still a sight to behold – it is a 5.0-inch HD-IPS LCD panel with a 1024 x 768 resolution. Its camera department on the other hand features a rear 8MP shooter and a front 1.3MP snapper.
