droidminiWhen you hear people talk of an octa-core chip package, the average smartphone shopper believes that someone is referring to an eight core CPU. However, the eight processing cores in the unique Motorola X8 Computing System that power the Verizon Droid Mini 4G are not all found on the central processor. The eight processors in question include an individual natural language processing core, a standalone contextual computing processing core, and a powerful quad core graphics processor in addition to the handset’s dual core CPU.

The Motorola Droid Mini can be purchased at a reduced price starting at $49.99, saving you up to $50 over carrier prices.

And before you think that the dual core chip is slower than quad core CPUs on other smartphones, think again. Motorola has smartly customized a dual core Snapdragon S4 Pro CPU, and it clocks out at a blazing 1.7 GHz. That is because it focuses only on your most important requests and operations, thanks to the unique process customization which delivers many ordinary and low energy processing tasks to the handset’s other three processors.

And not only does this speed up the CPU and allow it to focus entirely on your main requests, Motorola has found it also definitely enhances battery performance. This is what allows Motorola Mobility to make the Droid Mini 4G in such a compact and light form factor, without sacrificing battery performance. And what Motorola is calling “touchless control” which works with a combination of the Droid Mini Google Now support and the language processing core, allows you to wake your handset up to the sound of your voice when it is in standby mode.

Another battery conservation feature is the “active display” application which only illuminates the portion of your screen which is needed for a notification. Retailing for around $49 on contract currently at select online retailer outlets, the handset still delivers a large high-resolution display, while also providing a smaller, thinner and lighter smartphone experience than typical 4G handsets. The Motorola Droid Mini measures 4.77 x 2.41 x 0.35 inches (121.25 x 61.3 x 8.9 mm) in size, and weighs just 4.59 ounces (130 g). A rugged Kevlar body and Gorilla Glass display protection make for a durable handset.

The Motorola Droid Mini offers a large 4.30 inch True HD display with a resolution of 720 by 1,280 pixels, delivered at the high rate of 342 pixels per inch. As we mentioned above, battery life is excellent, at 28.0 hours of run time after a full battery charge, and 2.0 GB of RAM memory is on board. The handset also delivers 16 GB of built-in data storage space, and a rear facing 10.0 megapixel camera with a quick capture mode. A front facing 2.0 megapixel chat cam is also on board, and the Motorola Droid Mini 4G running on Verizon offers Bluetooth 4.0 and NFC wireless connectivity options, and can function as a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot for multiple wireless devices.

The Droid Mini can be purchased at a discounted price tag now starting at $49.99.
