Smartphone displays seem to be getting larger and larger, when only a couple of years ago a 3 inch screen was considered big. Now 5.0 inches seems to be the norm, but some of those larger screens cause handsets to be bulky and heavy, not to mention poor on battery performance. Motorola created the Droid Mini 4G for Verizon so that a smartphone shopper could still benefit from a large high-resolution display and efficient processing package, while also enjoying a compact, slim and light form factor and extreme battery power.
The Motorola Droid Mini can be purchased at a reduced price starting at $49.99, saving you up to $50 over carrier prices.
The Motorola Droid Mini arrived on the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE system in the United States on August 29, and is currently found in the Amazon Wireless store online with a price tag of $49 on contract. The phone claims Motorola’s new X8 Mobile Computing System, a customized package which Motorola’s senior vice president of engineering Iqbal Arshad says is actually a cluster of processors and “then some separate elements of the system that allow for intelligent, probabilistic computing.”
Arshad also revealed that this special combination of processors and customized firmware has helped extend battery life and performance as much as 50% over that of the competition. It is hard to argue that claim, when you realize that the 2,000 mA battery with wireless charging capabilities on board the Droid Mini can provide as much as 28.0 hours of talk time from a single battery charge. That is more than double the industry average, and the battery can last in standby mode for approximately 2 weeks.
Even with that excellent battery performance, the Motorola Droid Mini 4G is slim and small, measuring just 0.35 inches (8.9 mm) in thickness. The handset weighs only 4.59 ounces (130 g), with the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system running the show. The Kevlar enhanced Droid Mini delivers a large True HD display of 4.30 inches, with a pixel density of 342 pixels per inch. The X8 processing system includes a dual core 1.7 GHz CPU, a quad core graphics processor, and individual language and computing cores.
16 GB of data storage is present, as is 2.0 GB of RAM system memory. The front facing 2.0 megapixel chat cam also offers video and Skype call support, and the rear mounted 10.0 megapixel “quick capture” camera is capable of recording video in 1,080P HD resolution and at the rate of 30 frames per second. That rear snapper offers an LED flash and autofocus, as well as multiple customization and personalization features. The Verizon Droid Mini also delivers NFC, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi wireless connectivity options. The Droid Mini can be purchased at a discounted price tag now starting at $49.99.
