The Galaxy Nexus 4G Android handset from Samsung is the first smartphone to deliver the Android version 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) operating system out-of-the-box. The Galaxy Nexus also delivers one of the largest displays in the entire 4G smartphone marketplace, one of the highest resolutions available with the highest pixel densities, 1080P HD resolution video recording, above average battery life and the most user accessible out-of-the-box built-in storage of any smartphone.

The handset also runs on what independent wireless systems reviewer RootMetrics says is the fastest and most consistent wireless system in the United States at delivering true 4G LTE speeds. With simultaneous voice and data access, the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE wireless network delivers download speeds of 5 to 12 megabits per second (Mbps), and consistent upload speeds of 2 to 5 Mbps. Although the handset has a feature package and performance profile that solidly plants it at the top of the 4G smartphone marketplace, Verizon recently dropped the retail price of the handset to bargain-basement levels.

Smartphone shoppers can get the Samsung Galaxy Nexus 4G for $79 at select Verizon authorized retailers with a standard new two-year activation and data agreement at select retailers. The 4.65 inch Super AMOLED display renders visuals in 16 million unique colors, and is one of the most resolute displays available in a smartphone. Resolution runs 720 x 1280 pixels at 316 pixels per inch. That display delivers built-in light and proximity sensors, and is protected by a scratch resistant and glare reducing overlay of treatment.

The 12.0 hour talk time delivered from a single charge of the 1,850 mAh battery is 50% better than the average 4G smartphone, and the hardware package on board includes a Texas Instruments OMAP 4460 microchip basket. The PowerVR SGX540 chip  in the Nexus focuses on the graphics duties, and that leaves the dual core Cortex A9 central processor clocked at 1.2 GHz free to focus on handling your other requests. System memory runs 1.0 GB RAM, and built-in user accessible storage is 32 GB.

A 1.3 megapixel chat cam is on board to capture portrait photos and supports video calls, and is accompanied by a rear mounted 5.0 megapixel camcorder in the camera combo. That rear device delivers an LED flash, autofocus, white balance, geo-tagging and special effects features, and records video in 1080P HD resolution. The Samsung Galaxy Nexus 4G handset also delivers Near Frequency Communications (NFC) wireless support out-of-the-box.  Buy the Samsung Galaxy Nexus starting at only $79, which is a savings of $220 over the Verizon asking price.
