Several announcements were made by Verizon and AT&T today. The first of these was a statement confirming the release of the new version of the HTC Droid Incredible 4G. A few images of this handset showed up on the internet around a month ago following which many speculated that the new handset could be the HTC Fireball or the HTC DROID Incredible 3 as the back of it resembled the Droid Incredible series.
The HTC DROID Incredible 4G is in fact the HTC Fireball which makes it the third model in the Incredible series of phones. The new phone will be going back to the AMOLED display as the initial model and will feature a Super AMOLED screen. The size of the screen however has not been confirmed as of now.
The previous Droid Incredible model had to feature an S-LCD screen because of the shortage of Super AMOLED screens around a year or so ago (which also saw the Galaxy S switch to an S-LCD screen). The device will be powered by 1 GB RAM and will still feature a dual core 1.2 GHz Snapdragon processor. Dual cameras are also in the mix with a VGA camera in the front and an 8MP rear camera. The name carries the 4G title as it will have full LTE connectivity. It will also have Android 4.0 installed out of the box.
It has also been reported that Verizon will soon be offering a brand new mid-range Android device from LG, called the Lucid 4G. In another announcement, the company said it will now be offering a blue version of the Motorola DROID RAZR along with the already existing purple, white and black models.
In other news, Walmart’s online store has a surprise in store for you in the form of slashed prices if you are looking to renew your existing contract with AT&T or even sign a new 2 year contract while buying an AT&T branded Blackberry. As of now, it is not clear whether or not the offer exists in stores across the country but you will definitely be able to access this discount on online stores. It is clear that this offer is not available at other stores and is currently exclusive to Walmart and is not a decision taken by RIM or AT&T.
The top line Blackberry Bold 9900 could also see a price dip soon as RIM is expected to launch a new BlackBerry 10 handset sometime soon this year.
