Wikipad has finally released the specs related to its upcoming gaming tablet. The tablet will be released in the third quarter of this year and will be made available through popular retail outlets. Although the Wikipad was showcased at the CES this year, little was known of its specs. This latest press release has revealed that this new tablet will be powered by an NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor, clocking at 1.4 GHz, with a quad core processor. This processor speed is complemented well by 1GB DDR2 RAM.

Also embedded is a 520MHz GPU and a storage capacity of at least 16 GB. Furthermore, the tablet boasts of a 10.1 inch IPS display with a resolution of 1280X800. The tablet will be powered by a 23.56 Wh battery which is rumoured to offer 8 hours of video playback coupled with 6 hours of gaming time. The tablet has an 8MP shooter on the back and a 2MP on the front. To live up to its name of a gaming tablet, a handheld gaming controller add-on has also been provided. The tablet will use Android Jelly Bean 4.1 as the underlying Operating System.

Keeping the handheld controller aside, Wikipad is essentially another NVIDIA Tegra 3 powered device. Take Google’s all new Nexus 7 tablet as an example. The tablet being 7 inches in length boats of greater pixel density solely because it offers the same resolution on a smaller screen. In the 10 inch category, the tablet has a comparable pixel density with that of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab i.e. around 149 ppi. In terms of display capability, we can see that the tablet doesn’t have much to offer.

Gaming performance, also narrates a similar story. As far as configuration is concerned, the ASUS transformer Pad Infinity and the Wikipad, have similar processors and GPU, and are thus similar in terms of performance. The same applies to the Nexus tablet as well. Wikipad claims to have 8 hours of video playback and 6 hours of dedicated gaming time. In comparison, this number is easily bested by the likes of Google and ASUS, which boast of 10 hours of video playback.

Gaming time is the only area where Wikipad can market its tablet as both Google’s Nexus tablet and the ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity offer a gaming battery life of 2-4 hours only. Even form factor doesn’t provide significant differences between the Wikipad and the Transformer Pad Infinity. The only added advantage that Wikipad can boast of is an additional handheld gaming controller. Take that away and all you have is another Tegra 3 tablet with mediocre specs.
