There have been several rumors about the capabilities and features of Windows Phone 8 and some of them have been confirmed and it is now evident what the OS is going to look like and about how it is going to perform. Moreover, it is confirmed that the OS is going to be first released on Nokia, HTC, Samsung and Huawei. Each manufacturer has separate plans in terms of releasing smartphones running the operating system and here we see what they want to do.
Nokia, which already has a lineup of Windows Phone smarpthones, is likely to launch two devices, the Lumia 910 and the Lumia 920 on the 5th of September. Specifications of these two phones have not been released but in all probability, the Finnish giant is going to go all out and churn out powerhouses with the most impressive of features. In addition, a device codenamed the “Juggernaut Alpha” had scored a record breaking 151.4 on the WPBench test and this is likely to be a Windows Phone device. Moreover, a senior executive of the Windows Phone division claimed to be using a Nokia phone with Windows Phone 8 on it and more importantly, it was powered by a dual core processor. The future with Windows Phone 8 definitely looks bright for Nokia.
HTC, the Taiwanese technology giant, is readying three devices to run Windows Phone 8. The flagship phone is going to be called “Zenith”, while the mid range is labeled the “Accord”, and “Rio” is going to form the entry level segment. Despite being entry level, the Rio is going to feature a 4” screen, a 5 megapixel camera with 720p video recording and it is going to be powered by a Qualcomm MSM8277 processor. The Accord is going to have a slightly larger screen at 4.3”, 1080p recording on an 8 megapixel camera, 42Mbps HSPA+ capabilities and NFC support for wallet transactions and is going to be powered by a dual core processor. The high end Zenith is going to have improved features over the Accord with a quad core processor and a 4.7” screen.
Huawei seems to be going against its usual trend of producing cheap phones on Android when it comes to Windows Phone 8 and is looking at high end devices; this release is much awaited by everyone. Right now, the best Android one features a quad core processor and it is likely that the Windows Phone will have the same as well. Samsung is being quite conservative with two dual core phones and features similar to its mid-range Android series.
