Microsoft is getting the latest Windows Phone update ready to ship out and some HTC 8X users have been reporting that the update has hit their device already. The update was rumored to be getting sent out to some regions , but there was not specific timeline or date for release on all devices. Microsoft announced the update, but mobile carriers around the world were not as quick to announce that the update would be going out to users. One mobile carrier has begun the rollout according to screenshots posted online by HTC 8X users.
According to the screenshot, the update will include Microsoft Update 8.0.10328.78, Microsoft Update 8.0.10492.116, Microsoft Update 8.0.10501.127 and an HTC update for Windows Phone. The updates bring some improvements to the phone, which some will find to be quite important. According to the change log, the phone will get improvements to the Accessibility features for the impaired users, Storage will also now show how much free space, by category, you have on your phone and allow users to manage their temporary files. Driving Mode, which seems to be popular with most carriers and manufacturers, allows users to keep from being distracted behind the wheel by disabling notifications, phone calls and text messages.
The Screen will also be updated so that users will be allowed to lock the screen orientation so that the display does not flip just from moving your phone around slightly. Wi-Fi updates will allow users to connect to a Wi-Fi network during the setup process allowing them to save on data during the setup process. Internet Sharing will now be allowed via Microsoft Windows 8.1 devices giving them the ability to be paired up via Bluetooth and sharing the cellular data if your mobile carrier does not block that option.
Several fixes will be coming Bluetooth to address known issues, plus the overall connection quality will be addressed as well. Allowing users to do more with Ringtones will also be coming with the update, giving users access to assigning new tones to text messages, emails, voicemails and more. The App Switcher update will allow users to close apps as soon as they are done with them, freeing up that precious RAM for other things. Nokia has announced its own version of the Microsoft Windows Phone GDR3 update called Lumia Black and that comes with specific features for Nokia phones as well as the same improvements.
