Just recently, Microsoft made an announcement that new Windows Phone 8 devices will be launched in US shores by T-Mobile, Verizon and AT&T. We are already familiar with most of the upcoming WP 8 devices such as the HTC Windows Phone 8X and Nokia Lumia 920 among others but are still in the dark when it comes to the Samsung Ativ Odyssey.
According to the software giant, the Samsung Ativ Odyssey is set to be launched by Verizon in December but sad to say, this close to the holidays, we still haven’t gotten a peek at the overly mysterious Windows Phone handset from the Korean electronics giant. Though this might be the case, rumors have it that the said Verizon variant of the Samsung Ativ Odyssey is actually a version of the Samsung Ativ S.
Well, if that is the case, let us then take a look at the specs sheet of the Samsung Ativ S to give us an idea of what we can expect from the Samsung Ativ Odysssey.
The Samsung Ativ S was unveiled by the Korean smartphone and tablet manufacturer back in August but until now, news about the handset hitting the shelves have been pretty scant. However, a quick look at the resume of the Samsung Ativ S gives off the impression that its specs sheet is a bit close to the Samsung Galaxy S III, the current flagship device of the manufacturer for the android ecosystem.
The Samsung Ativ S has dimensions of 137.2 x 70.5 x 8.7 mm and it tips the scales at 135 grams. The mug shots of the handset gives us the idea that it closely resembles the Samsung Galaxy S III in terms of design and aesthetics except for the slightly larger physical button found right below the handset’s massive display.
Under the hood, the components of the Samsung Ativ S closely resemble those found in the US version of the Samsung Galaxy S III as well. The handset’s circuitry revolves around its QualComm MSM8960 SnapDragon chipset and this SoC gives the handset a dual-core Krait processor clocked at 1.5 GHz and a full gigabyte of RAM. In addition to that, the handset also comes with a dedicated Adreno 225 graphics chip to handle messy graphical situations. The processor-RAM combination under the hood of the Samsung Ativ S ensures that it can handle any task throw at it with relative ease.
In terms of its storage space, the Samsung Ativ S will be offered in a 16GB and a 32GB model with the option to have its internal storage expanded though the use of the handset’s dedicated microSD card slot. As for its display, the Samsung Ativ S sports a massive 4.8-inch SuperAMOLED HD panel with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels while its camera department boasts of a rear 8MP shooter and a front 1.9MP snapper.
